Yup I went out and done it now. I spear headed an archery group night on Tuesday evenings at our church in the Fredericton area. We only ask if they have the money to donate 2 dollars a night so we can replace stuff from time to time. We have strick rules and regulations but have a wide range of shooters, Kids up to senior citizens. We have a very good group of Traditional shooters as well.
We have even managed to set up dates for a Bow hunter education course from DNR to happen at the church on Monday April 28 and Tuesday April 29 6 pm untill 10 both nights.

But tonight at the shoot........... Well ............

WOW what a night. You can not believe how well this is going.
We had another great group of 18 shooters and had a couple new folks. One of our regular ladies even brought along someone else's kids with her and they had a blast. She picked up my sons bow and tried it............. I now need to find another youth bow for her, another lady wants one to as well as a third lady wants a bow. I also have two guys in the group that want me to help find them bows. so the hunt of a different kind begins. I will take one at a time and try to find them something. Way to cool. Here are just a few picks of tonight.
The tech area. which by the way I only got to shoot two rounds as I was so busy teching bows and fletching arrows for people. It was real cool to be able to do it to. Thanks Eastern and BT for teaching me as much as you two have.

The group at the line and it was a full line tonight.

The retrieve of arrows

And the most heart warming story of them all happened tonight. Eastern invited his mom a wile back to just come see what it was all about. She decided to come tonight and by golly didn't she pick up a bow and do some shooting. Remember this woman is around 76 years young. Eastern has more pics on his camera I will post after I get a copy.
Eastern and his mom. Way to cool.

She even says she will be back.

Good show. We need more clubs on the western side of the province. If you need any information to get started let us know or better yet come and visit us at the Woodstock Archery Club. There is a lot out there to get you started. A few years ago we bought ten new compound bows for the kids to use. This year we have 22 kids in the Canbow Program and another 18 in the youth group sponsored by Go-NB. Good luck and again Good Show.

Hey!! stilllearning,I have a few questions about those end butts in your pictures. Are thoses homemade? What is the center made of? What is the approximate cost for each one? And finally next time you go shoot can you take some close up pics of them? We need to change ours now and we've been using bags and we have to change them once or twice a year. Bags aren't really good for shooting fita either. Another question is the life expectancy of each one. Thank you for your time and keep shooting!!

Here are a few more pics of Easterns mom shooting bow. I can't believe this amazing lady. I can only hope to do the stuff she does at 76.
Remember she went out with eastern last fall for a hunt, all dressed in camo, face painted up and sat there asking questions for about 3 hours I think it was. she is amazing.

Lets see if I can answer these questions for you.

Those butts are home made as you stated.   The center is what I know it as is a wallboard.  It is pressed paper almost and comes in a 4X8 sheet at the hardware stores like Kent Building supplies.  I do believe the approximate cost was between 80 and 90 dollars per Butt.

Are these the type of pics you are looking for?

My son is almost 4 feet high if that helps.

If you can come on a Tuesday night you can get some measurments if you would like.  You can find us at the First Wesleyan Church on Duncan Lane in Fredericton.  Tuesday nights at 6:30 untill 8:30pm.

I think I should mention that we are not associated with Archery NB as we just want to give people a place to learn to have fun and if they want to get involved deeper than that we will aim them at one of the two that I know of official Clubs in Fredericton.

just a question for anybody who can answer. While reading through the hunting regulation book it says you must not fire a bow within 200m of a house, business, etc. Is this just for hunting or is this also for practice. I only ask this because I have been wary on shooting mine in my back yard but noticed in the pictures that people are shooting near their house, church, gym, etc. If done in a safe manner I hope this is legal.

Browning

It is legal to shoot archery in your own yard as long as the nearest house, etc is 200m away.
I checked with DNR just out of curiosity

Stilllearning, If a person wanted to start one of these archery groups what kind of permits, insurance, rules etc are needed and the approx cost for these to be able to shoot inside of a building.

Well now lets see if I can explain this one.

We are not technicly a Club. We are and Archery Group that the Church is using as a ministry or outreach. Because of this we did not associate with Archery New Brunswick so we can look at keeping cost down.

The insurance company we have at the church did have some questions for us as to rules, that we set up and I can email to you if you would like, safety procedures put in place to keep someone from walking in one of the fire exit doors out of the gym. They also wanted to know if we were going to be shooting out doors, Which I don't think we can as a seniors complex may be to close, and if we were going to have any big tournaments associated with Archery NB. After aswering there questions to the best of my ability they seemed satified that this was a church function used for outreach. No extra cost to the Church.
No are no permits needed to shoot inside, But the technical rule from DNR is that like a a rifle to transport your bow to and from the church you are techicaly suppose to go get a transport permit.
Now I say techicaly because DNR see a bow as a weapon like it is but the RCMP Don't so they don't care. Go figure.

Cost of the butts was about $85 I think it was.

I was very lucky to find neting out of the states for about $450 I think it was for a 50 foot by 10 foot piece. by the way we may need to get more soon.
If you would like more information that I might have just PM me and maybe we can get phone numbers as I hate typing and can't spell worth beans. LOL

I hope this helps and keep the questions comming.
