Buckhunter , I have shot Hornady 150g Innerbonds out of my 300 Rum at 3600 fps, and they still wiegh 101g . I have no doubt they ( GMX or Innerbond) will work at 3000 fps ( .270 Velocities) . My best friend shot a 7 point buck at 270 yrds with 150g HIB , out of his 30-06 , Velocitiy was 2965 fps , broke front shoulder, toasted the lungs , and kept on going. try them out . All you need is 1 jug of water ( milk , windshield washer, ect) , fill a 18" to 24" box with news papers packed tight, then put 3 or 4 phone books or sears catologs behind the box . back that up with a nice piece of softwood 18'' long , ( the bullets will be very hot when you dig them out of the phone books). If you can not do it where your at, and you are coming to Moncton area sometime( bring your gun) , send me a PM, and I will take to the range and we will do the test. (ps open to anyone, ) you can try my .300 RUM too. Riflebuilder

Here are some pictures of Cup and Jacket bullets ( normal) . In my test, its easy to see, when you go over 2900 fps and above , they can not handle the stress , and come apart . From 1800 fps to 2800 fps , they will work fine. But push them to fast , and your just going to wound your game , a specially on close shots . Riflebuilder

From the pics of the GMX bullets, they seem to be hornadys bullet compitition to the Barnes TSX. do you know what the minimum velocity for the GMX bullet is for proper expansion.Buckhunter , I have shot Hornady 150g Innerbonds out of my 300 Rum at 3600 fps, and they still wiegh 101g . X2 ballistc tips / v max .. explosive little buggers,,meat destroyers for sure.!!
I keep some loaded up for targets/yotes... but thats it.
would rather use a standard bullet (IE.. winchester PSP) for deer..
Had great results with 180gr Accubonds (Main bullet)
I have used the TSX.. Good strong bullet i wouldnt hesitate to use either
I find you just dont want be to close (my observation only), had 180 TSX's ZIP right though the rib cage..to fast/ and to close, seems like they didnt expand... (300win mag)
thought I missed twice, untili saw the steam trail... LOL.
preference for me to the Accubonds.... Moose just seem to drop.
Perfect mushrooms with the ones i have found.
(But mind you, i have seen quite few animals knocked flat with standard ole, cup and core bullets..)

Buckhunter Hornady suggests 2000 fps to open up. On their site they show bullets fired at different velocity. At 2000 the expansion is limited.

i'v been to there site and was unable to find bullets fired at different velocityGreat info rifle builder. In the right situation many bullets will work. However when really pushed the performance differences come out.

I use TSX's in my 300 ultra mag, have had 100% success at very close range and as far as 450yrs on a moose. I have no reason to try anything else at this point!

Here is a picture of the options:

Anyone have a preference in the Federal Premiums that would be good for Moose and Deer for a Tikka 30-06?
