just a quick question...i have a remington 870 express magnum with screw in chokes....if i remove the modified choke and shoot a slug out of it will that damage the threads er no? dont think it will but better safe then sorry. thanks a lot, BOB
Improved Cylinder Choke "Should Be" Your most accurate choke for shooting "Rifled Slugs"!!
I have never heard of anybody reporting any harm being done while shooting Slugs out of an 870 w/ screw in chokes. Pick yourself up a IC choke tube and have at er!!
Would I shoot slugs out of it w/out a choke tube installed?
Definetly a bad idea to shoot any shell with no choke. Like wonksy said, the best choke is cylinder or improved cylinder, but your modified will work fine. I had a Remington 870 for bear and I used slugs in a light modified choke, shot dead on.
The rifling on a "rifled slug" doesn't actually spin it like rifling in a barrel would, but it does leave it enough room to deform and squeeze through a choke tube. Just make sure you get the ones marked for smoothbore barrels, don't get the sabot slug, they're only for rifled shotgun barrels.
