What brand of ammo is everyone using? I have heard so many stories about different brands and I am about to go sight in my .300 win mag and I need new bullets. Also i have always used 180 grain, but can get anywhere from 150-200 for it, any opinions on grain choice?

always used 180gr when i hunted with the .300
I reload and used barnes or nosler bullets.

But if i needed store bought, found standard 180gr winchesters shot fine.
I am using Easton Carbon PowerFlight 300 spine @ 9.5gpi.

In the Scatter-gun Its Federal Premium.

I was using federal, but then switched to winchester. Which is when i started having problems keeping it sighted in. So I am still not sure if it was the bullet or scope, (havn't put enough shots through with the new scope yet). But everyone tells me to stay away from federal and winchester!

craig 1985 - I have been using Winchester Ballistic Sivertips in my 7 mm Mag and have never had any issues with keeping it sighted in. A friend of mine has a 300 WSM and he couldn't keep it sighted in and it was his new scope that was the problem.
here are my go to loads for my 2 main rifles I have a few others loaded but these are my keepers

300 Ultra Mag I am shooting 180gr Barnes TSX & 180gr Swift Sirocco's using retumbo powder
30-06 I am shooting 165gr Sierra Gamekings & 150gr Hornady Interbonds using H414 powder

wonsky let me check and I will get back to you. can't remember off the top of my head
I know we have them screaming pretty good and they are holding accuracy very well

Doing ok how about you...been busy this summer with family and chasing those atlantic salmon and haven't done much shooting at all. But Sept is coming and I have started to see more deer in the last couple weeks which really gets my heart going!!
Really don't think you can wrong with any of them,Winchester,Federal,Hornady,Remington.
Most is personal preference and what is widely available,I shoot Remington 180,good for deer and moose.
I use Hornady 30-30 Win 160 gr FTX® LEVERevolution® with my Winchester Model 94
I shoot a 30.06 and the ammo I used for as long as they made them, was the Winchester Failsafe in 180 grain. To me, they were excellent and had unbelievable punch to them and did everything they were supposed to do. Since they discontinued these bullets, I have switched over to the 180 grain Winchester XP3's. I stick with the one grainage due to the cost of these bullets plus I don't hunt in alot of areas that call for long range shooting.

I have found Winchester an excellent bullet but like a previous post stated, it's all in personal choice. I am really looking forward (hoping) to see how these bullets work.
Wonsky I checked our log book and for the 180gr Barnes TSX we are using 100gr of Retumbo and the 180 Scirocco is 101gr Retumbo(velocity 3367 on the crony)
if you haven't tried the Retumbo powder in your ultra mag you should.

my 30-06 150gr Hornady IB load is 60gr on H414 at velocity of 2997fps

I am wondering if anyone can answer a question for me. I am looking for shells for my shotgun, for birds, it is a 28 g. The problem I have is I am a breast cancer survivor, who loves to hunt, deer and birds, but find it hard to keep shooting a 20 g or 12. Don't really like a 410, but find the 28 to be a very nice gun. With deer, I shoot either a 303 or 30-30, depending on where hunting and under what conditions. With the rifle tho, hopefully only have to shoot once. The only place I have tracked them down in the Miramichi, they are going for over $30 per box, and I find that nuts. I do a lot of travelling in NB, they are very seldom avail here. It is a beautiful lite gun, shoots very nice, and have great faith in it. I have all above mentioned guns and rifles, including a .22, which I have great fun with, but really like the 28 g. Any suggestions?

ya that are moving right along but I should have mentioned that all the bullets are moly coated and both my and my buddy's Ultra mag's have aftermarket target barrels

Also anyone reading this and wants to reload please don't start out with max loads. We push our loads fairly hot but we build up and test as we go. If we see any signs of pressure we back off.

Wonksy I know you don't need that tip but never know who is reading this

I think the gun dealer in Mcadam has the federal gold medal # 8.5 target loads for $99.99 per case (10 boxes) plus tax or the win AA hs for $129.99 per case plus tax. Or about $3 more per box if you only buy 1 at a time.
