A Moncton roller derby league will hold a roll-a-thon fundraiser Sunday at the Moncton Lions Club on Mark Avenue to help the family of Sabrina Patterson, who was found murdered in Albert County woods Nov. 6.

Members of the Muddy River Rollers have organized the event from 1 to 10 p.m. to help provide for Patterson's young children while at the same time to raise awareness of violence against women, said league president Carole Maillet.

The league players are taking pledges and donations can be made at the roll-a-thon, she said.

Maillet said she expects up to 40 girls will be participating in the roll-a-thon during the day and taking part in drills and scrimmages as well as meeting the public who are invited to come in and watch.
