Great spring bear hunt! On June 17th my gf and I were hunting out of my site. I had set it up a tree stand for bow and also a blind as well for when I took my kids or anyone else who wanted to tag along. We got in later as kids had to be taken care of before the hunting started. At approx. 8:40 we arrived. I grabbed my memory card from the camera to see what had came in that night. I went and sat down and we started going through pics. No more than 5 minutes went by and something caught my eye. I looked up and there he was just entering the shooting lane. I was only actually guiding today as I wanted my gf to shoot a bear. When she looked up and saw him she froze. I told her to shoot as he's a big one! She couldn't do a thing, she was just mesmerized by being so close to such a beast. The bruin looked at us and I said shoot now. She just handed the rifle to me and he turned slightly quartering to. I shouldered the rifle and quickly put one behind his shoulder. We couldn't believe it! We had only been there for 5 minutes! After 10 minutes I couldn't wait any longer. We started following running tracks and after 50 yards finally evidence of a hit. A little chunk of fat. then nothing for 10 yards and a little blood, then one spot a lot then hardly a speck. I was on my hands and knees following specks for the next 20 yards before I looked ahead and saw him. When we got to him we couldn't get over his size. I had no pics of him this year but pretty sure I do last spring when he was in tending a sow. After some work 3 hours later he was on the truck. Even though I kinda feel bad as this was supposed to be her bear I'm very grateful she was there with me. good thing is she has no regrets and was amazed by the experience. Even though i pulled the trigger it's hers just as much as mine. He officially weighed 424 and green scored 20 inches even. One of my best hunting days ever!
