Did some scouting the other day , original purpose was to do some pickerel fishing but got to check out a lot of the usual duck spots, looking pretty good so far, was out at Grand lake meadows as well as maquapit and lakevile corner, a lot of feed so far this year, wild rice( duck oats) seem to be growing good and look like they are going to be quite thick. A lot of ponds are pretty low or dry but some rain should bring them back up, seen quite a few birds for this time of year more than last year at this time, lots of yonug birds, seen a black duck with a brood of 9 chicks good to see she still has that many...should be a good season...can't [email protected]

We are also seeing some nice bunches of young birds up in Salmon River. Also seeing lots of flocks of partridge while out fishing.Should be a good year for birds.
Have not seen many ducks on Grand lake ,but have seen lots of geese
We've been vacationing at Harvey lake this summer and the same groups of ducks come by for their feed of stale bread. One group has four and the ducklings are getting hard to tell apart from the mother as they are 90% of her size. Another group has 10. Had a group of 4 mallards at the dock tonight and there is a single coming by as well. I think that the lack of rainfall and good temps in May helped the birds alot.

Its a good thing where seing good numbers here, because with the oil fiasco in Gulf of Mexico we might loose alot of bird when they migrate down south. Hopefully the clean up goes well.
Pj you are wondering a bit far from the Sand Bar be careful where you step HEHEHEHE...Sam
Sam, if I can kill ducks on the sandbar these days im doin pretty good, no feed at all the last few years, water has been staying high and the duck oats arent growing, not like they used to anyways, this year looks a little better but i marked my swamp just in case, found a nice little pond and creek way back in there, still lots of water back in there even without the beavers flooding it, i think it will be even more of a killer spot in there with less place for them to go, if the old guide needs a place to shoot ducks this year again im sure i could arrange a spot or two, and the winchester will show the maxus how to shoot haha

We have not been to the river Yet.This weekend likely if Alex Sobers up from Golfing with the Bridges. Sound like things are shaping up for the Season for You. We will get Out. From the lake of no Name I used to Hunt to the Left of you I always seen ducks going in and it was not in the River but in that direction even before the beavers got Active. My Buddy MAX and I already got in a couple of fights with a Bear and 2 porcupines and it did not turn out real well for them right here in the Yard, just think what will happen when we go to the meadows.
