you can only use this caliber during rifle deer or bear season...otherwise you have to use .23 caliber and under

 

We as hunters and members of conservation organisations should be petitioning our government to amend the laws regarding caliber restrictions. Its strange that we can be trusted to use our good judgement and not shoot a Deer, Moose or Bear with a .17 or .20 caliber centerfire rifle but can't be trusted to only use our big game rifles to shoot coyotes and groundhogs outside of a big game season.

Not to mention the use of buckshot for coyotes should be legalized out side of big game seasons.

This would allow hunters on a budget to chase coyotes without having to choose between a big game rifle or coyote rifle.

I agree Jim, something needs to be done. These laws that assume everyone is a poacher really piss me off.

 

I like the fact that it gave me an excuse to buy another rifle! But I do see everyones point.

 

The problem is the poachers. But even if they upped it to 24 cal that would help the budget hunters. From what I have been told most poachers are 303 cal users and a lot of poaching is done on ski doos where poachers use sawed off 303 they hide in their ski foo suits. They drive into a deer bed in deep snow and kill everything that cannot run away

 

Treating us all like criminals doesn't do anything to stop poaching... Lots of deer get killed legally with .223 and 22-250 anyway so what is accomplished other than needless restrictions?

 

a lot use the 22-250 for coyote i actualy just picked up a savage axis 22-250rem a few weeks ago and im planning on getting into coyote hunting after deer season!

 

I would argue that the 22-250 is a better round to use for yotes than a 243, but if that's what you have and mom won't allow you to pick up a 22-250 or 223, then you are restricted to big game seasons. In NS, they can use whatever they want, but us NB'ers can't be trusted i guess. Since I was born in NS, shouldn't I be trustworthy, or did I become corrupted after moving here.

I also used coyote hunting restrictions as an excuse to buy an Axis in 22-250, but if I had the option, I would have left the axis at the store, used one of my big game rifles and spent the cash on some other hunting stuff.

Cant use a .243,but its perfectly legal to use a .54,.58,.72 cal muzzleloader year round....go figger??

....and if its a flinter,dont even need a PAL.
2 perfect excuses to hunt with flintlock ML right there! ^^
